FAMILY THERAPY

One of Renee’s area of specialty is Family Therapy which can involve individuals, couples, parents, carers or multiple family members depending on the circumstances. This approach involves understanding the individual and their strengths and difficulties in the context of their social and family systems both past and present, to mobilise their strengths and reduce suffering and distress.

When an individual in a family is having some struggles with their mental health and coping, it affects all members of the family and the relationships that individual has with the people around them. The family is a powerful protective factor and valuable resource for mental health recovery in children and adolescents.Through enhancing greater understanding, support and connection in families it can also enhance resilience and positive outcomes.

The support and care needs of parents/carers is not overlooked with a focus on building parental confidence, understanding of their child’s perception and experiences, resilience, self-care and compassion which are key to healthy family relationships.

Renee is recognised by the Australian Association of family therapy (AAFT) as a Clinical Family Therapist and an accredited supervisor in Family Therapy.
